June is a month of celebration, reflection, and awareness. Across our communities, we come together to recognize Pride Month, uplifting the voices and rights of the LGBTQ+ community; Juneteenth, honoring African American freedom and resilience; Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, advocating for those impacted by memory loss and cognitive decline; and Men’s Health Month, encouraging men and boys to take charge of their well-being. Each of these observances highlights a vital part of who we are—our identities, our health, our histories—and reminds us that by learning, listening, and supporting one another, we build stronger, more connected communities.
LGBTQ+ Pride Month
|
Pride Month is celebrated every June to honor the LGBTQ+ community and recognize the ongoing fight for equality and inclusion. It began after the Stonewall Uprising in 1969, when LGBTQ+ individuals in New York City stood up against discrimination. That moment sparked a movement that continues today.
Pride is about celebrating identity, promoting acceptance, and remembering the work that still needs to be done. From parades and festivals to education and advocacy, Pride Month reminds us that everyone deserves to live and love freely. |
Juneteenth & African American Freedom Day
|
Juneteenth, also known as African American Freedom Day, is celebrated on June 19 each year. It marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally told they were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of the end of slavery in the United States and the ongoing journey toward racial justice and equality. Today, it’s celebrated with festivals, music, education, and reflection—honoring Black history, culture, and the strength of generations who fought for freedom. This day encourages all of us to learn from the past and continue building a future rooted in freedom, dignity, and unity. |
Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month
|
Every June, we observe Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month to shine a light on the millions of people affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. It's a time to raise awareness, honor caregivers, promote brain health, and encourage early detection and research.
Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, and while it primarily affects older adults, its impact touches families of all ages. During this month, people are encouraged to wear purple, share stories, and take steps to support brain wellness—like staying active, eating healthy, and staying socially engaged. This month reminds us that every memory matters, and together, we can make a difference through education, compassion, and advocacy. |
Men’s Health Month
|
June is Men’s Health Month, a time to raise awareness about the unique health challenges men face and to encourage regular checkups, healthy habits, and early detection of preventable conditions.
From heart disease and high blood pressure to mental health and prostate cancer, Men’s Health Month promotes the importance of taking care of the whole person—mind and body. It’s also a great opportunity for families and communities to support the men and boys in their lives by encouraging open conversations and healthy choices. Wearing blue during June is one way to show your support and start the conversation. Whether it’s scheduling a doctor’s visit, eating better, or checking in on a friend, small steps can lead to a longer, stronger life. |
No matter how you choose to take part this June, we hope you find moments to learn, connect, and celebrate the strength and diversity of our community.
