Home Holiday Crafts

Thankful Leaf Garland
Picture
  • Materials Needed: Construction paper in fall colors (orange, yellow, brown, red), scissors, markers, string, and tape or clothespins.
  • Instructions: Cut out leaf shapes from the construction paper. On each leaf, family members can write something they’re thankful for. Attach the leaves to a length of string with tape or clothespins to create a garland. Hang it somewhere special as a reminder of gratitude during the holiday season.
  • Tip: Add new leaves each day to make it an ongoing family activity through November!

Pine Cone Christmas Tree Ornaments
  • Materials Needed: Pinecones, green paint, small pom-poms or sequins, glue, and a small star sticker or bead.
  • Instructions: Paint the pinecone green, letting it dry completely. Once dry, glue small pom-poms or sequins onto the pinecone to look like ornaments. Attach a star sticker or bead to the top. Add a loop of string or ribbon to hang it on the tree!
  • Tip: For extra sparkle, add a little glitter to the edges of the pinecone branches!
Handprint Holiday Wreath
  • Materials Needed: Green and red construction paper, pencil, scissors, glue, and ribbon.
  • Instructions: Trace each child’s hand on green construction paper multiple times and cut out the handprints. Arrange and glue the handprints in a circular shape to create a wreath. Add red construction paper circles or bows for decoration, then attach a ribbon loop for hanging.
  • Tip: Write a holiday message or family names on the handprints to make it extra personal!

Ice Sun Catchers
  • Materials Needed: Small plastic containers or muffin tins, water, natural items (like berries, leaves, small pine branches), string, and cold outdoor temperatures or freezer.
  • Instructions: Place a looped string into each container or muffin tin cavity so it sticks out at the top (this will be the hanger). Add a few natural items for decoration, then fill each container with water. Set them outside if temperatures are below freezing or place them in the freezer until the water is frozen solid. Once frozen, pop them out of the container and hang them on tree branches or a porch where they can catch the winter sunlight!
  • Tip: For added color, use food coloring in the water, creating beautiful icy ornaments.

Painted Rock Penguins
  • Materials Needed: Smooth, round rocks (from a craft store or collected from outside), black, white, and orange acrylic paint, paintbrushes, and googly eyes (optional).
  • Instructions: Start by painting the entire rock black and let it dry. Next, paint a large white oval on the front of the rock to create the penguin’s belly. Add a small orange triangle near the top for a beak, and use orange paint to make little feet at the bottom. Once everything is dry, glue on googly eyes if you like, or paint eyes with a fine brush.
  • Tip: Make a whole family of penguins by using rocks of different sizes!
